Awards
The Plasma Science and Applications Committee sponsors two awards affiliated with the ICOPS conference. We are proud to announce the winners of these awards
- The Plasma Science and Applications (PSAC) Award has been won by Dr. Alexander L. Velikovich, a Plasma Physicist from the US Naval Research Laboratory. The Moscow State University Department of Physics awarded Velikovich a Master of Science equivalent degree in 1974. In 1978 he received a PhD. equivalent degree in plasma physics and chemistry from Kapitza Institute for Physical Problems, U.S.S.R. Academy of Sciences. He earned an Advanced Degree of Doctor of Science in Electrophysics in 1991 from the High Current Electronics Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences, Tomsk, Russia. Velikovich is an author and co-author of more than 170 publications in leading peer-reviewed journals on plasma physics, hydrodynamics, shock waves, nonlinear optics and quantum electronics, with over 2,500 citations.

- The Igor Alexeff Outstanding Student in Plasma Science Award has been won by Guy Rosenzweig. Guy Rosenzweig was born in Rehovot, Israel, grew up in the Galilee (northern part of Israel) and is a father of two. He has received a B.A degree in physics from the Technion, Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, where he graduated cum laude. He has received an M.Sc degree in plasma physics from the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, where he is about to receive a PhD in plasma physics for studying the magnetic field distribution in a Z-pinch plasma. Aside from his studies, Guy is passionate about teaching, has obtained a teaching certificate, and is involved in several, formal and informal, educational programs. Guy has received an honorable mention from the ICOPS 2014 Outstanding Student Paper Awards committee, and was awarded twice the Samuel Goldsmith Student Prize (1st prize) at the Israeli Conferences in Plasma Science and Applications.
